The NearLite system will work on most non-metallic surfaces. Due to its electrical properties, the NearLite system will not work optimally on a metallic surface. If there is too much metal present the NearLite system may not work at all.
The Nearlite system is intended for use indoors and taking the same precautions as you would with electrical items such as not getting the area wet.
Yes, the NearLite system will continue to function even though the ribbon cable is covered with fabric. The NearLite system can even continue to operate with the ribbon cable place on the bottom side of a table top. The thickness and material of the table will affect how efficient the the NearLite system is.

Our clear led is the current default LED we offer. It was selected for its efficiency. Configurable light tags allow the user to place any leds in the slots provided. We currently have an inventory of other color LED we have also used and are at the same effeciency as the clear LEDs. We will be selling these very soon. If you would desire colored LEDs contact us through the contact page and we can get you a price on colored LEDs.
The controller box will warm up when it is in operation, but it will not get too hot. In fact, there is circuitry that will interrupt the systems operation if overheating is detected.
We have developed two different sizes for the power mat. The first is a 30" x 6", the size of an average fireplace mantle. and a 18" x 18" the size of the average board game. While these two mats have been developed, the store will tell you if they are currently in stock. Please contact us if you would like a system and it is not in stock.
We recommend setting the system up while disconnected. You can first try it out by unfolding the wire and placing the lights in the tags. Once you have set it up, you can connect it to assure all pieces are working. Once you have determined that the set is working, you can disconnect it and begin to set up your items. You should not get shocked simply touching the light tags or the ribbon cable. Use caution when handling the controller box
